History
Acupuncture is the oldest recorded forms of medicine having been used in China for over 3000 years. Research shows that it works for over 70% of people. It does not work for everybody and every condition but frequently results are seen where conventional treatment has failed.

How it works
The Chinese understanding is that Qi (energy) flows freely through the healthy body. However when there is a problem the energy stagnates. Stimulation of appropriate acupuncture points frees this stagnation. Research has been able to show that acupuncture stimulates the human body to produce endorphins - the natural pain relieving chemicals that your body produces.
Why have treatment with a physiotherapist?
All physiotherapists at Physiomatters are ACCP (Acupuncture Association of Chartered Physiotherapists) members meaning they have completed a 3-4 year degree course. All ACCP members who practise acupuncture are trained to give pain relief. The unique aspect of physiotherapists practicing acupuncture enables other natural treatments, such as exercise, manual therapy and relaxation techniques to be combined.
